Nick Tubbs

Nick was born and raised in Scarborough and after university in Leeds was articled at the long established Scarborough firm of Cook Fowler & Outhet.

After qualifying as a solicitor 1989 Nick had a broad ranging practice including conveyancing, divorce and family work and some civil litigation. Since the early 90's Nick has practised exclusively in criminal defence work and appears regularly in the local Courts and beyond.

Since founding Tubbs & Co with his former partner Franklyn Garvey in 2003 Nick has continued to pursue his criminal defence practice.

In his younger days Nick played cricket and football and still maintains a modicum of fitness by playing 5 aside football regularly.

Robert Vining

Robert Vining

Robert is a consultant solicitor with the firm who has many years of experience in criminal law. He has worked for many years in Oldham and more recently has been based in Bridlington and Scarborough.

Fiona Mullane

Fiona studied Linguistics at the University of Edinburgh, gaining a first-class MA (Hons) degree in 1987.  She then worked in corporate hospitality and travelled extensively before undertaking the post- graduate certificate in Law at Huddersfield Polytechnic in 1991-2 and the Law Society Finals at the College of Law in York in 1993. She trained at Cook Fowler & Outhet Solicitors in Scarborough, qualifying in 1995.

Since qualifying, Fiona has specialised in wills, estate administration, powers of attorney, trusts, inheritance tax planning, long term care needs and Court of Protection applications.

Fiona has managed and run the Private Client department at Tubbs & Co since 2007 with the valued assistance of Jenny Harper.

Fiona is also a qualified Notary Public.  This means that she is able to authenticate documents for use abroad such as powers of attorney to buy and sell property abroad, affidavits of consent to travel for minors and certificates of non-impediment for marriages abroad.  Fiona can also assist with legalisation if required.  Please feel free to email or ring for more information.

Outside work, Fiona has a wide variety of interests including cycling, sailing, skiing and walking with her family and their black lab, Bramble.  She also enjoys growing veg on her allotment, and cooking and eating the fruits of her labours.

Helen Winter

Helen Winter

Helen started her career in 1989, initially working in the Accounts Department of Cook Fowler and Outhet Solicitors before concentrating in Criminal Defence. In 1994 Helen decided to train as a Legal Executive and qualified as a Chartered Legal Executive in 2000 specialising in Criminal Law. For over 20 years Helen has dedicated her professional career to assist those finding themselves in somewhat difficult circumstances by being supportive and understanding and guiding them though the potentially difficult criminal process.

Helen joined Tubbs and Co in February 2003 and since then has dealt with all aspects of Crown Court work.

In February 2015, Helen became the Chair of the Scarborough Branch of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives which aims to provide a support network for members in the area. 

Helen likes to cook and is a keen gardener in her leisure time.

Ian Houseman

After a brief career as a professional cricketer Ian worked in recruitment advertising for several years before returning to University and Law School to retrain as a Solicitor.


Ian joined Tubbs & Co in 2007 and specialises in Residential and Commercial Property.


In his spare time Ian enjoys playing golf and taking his beloved dogs Zack and Wilson on long rambling walks.

Samantha Drayton

Samantha Drayton

Samantha has over 18 years experience in the legal sector.  Samantha undertakes all aspects of Conveyancing for Tubbs & Co.  She works along side many Developers, big and small, dealing with new build properties, help to buy and part exchange.  Samantha is currently studying towards a Licensed Conveyancer qualification.  Outside of work Samantha enjoys spending time with her family, walking and cycling and is a keen cook.
